NOTE ON THE PAPER: “1787. A watermark CURTEIS & SONS is in Churchill, No. 231. (See Watermark No. 32 in this book.)....In 1789 the paper mill was insured by William, John and Thomas Curteis, paper makers....In 1794 William, John and Thomas Curteis, paper makers, insured the drying lofts etc....By [1800] the leading member of the firm wwas almost certainly Thomas Curteis, who was a master paper maker in 1796....The mill was in his hands after 1800. In 1804 Thomas Curteis, paper maker, insured the drying lofts etc. (Shorter 1957, pp. 236-7).
